I had heard about La Polentaria but somehow I didn’t get round to going. I FINALLY managed it! Yay!! Before you ask, it did not disappoint. If anything it exceed my expectations.
We kicked off with a shared starter of polenta Bruschetta with Fonduta cheese. This was like a polenta version of cheese on toast just the cheese really made the difference. Think gooey comfort food. I think if I worked closer I’d come here for lunch.
For our main course I really was stuck choosing between the polenta with gorganzola and walnuts or the mushrooms. I opted for the mushrooms just because I didn’t want to overdo the cheese. The mushrooms were a really good choice as I think with the creamy soft polenta the melting gorgonzola might have been a bit too much for me. I could have eaten the whole thing but needed to leave room for dessert. I managed to get a taste of Mr G’s vegetable stew and that was really good. It tasted of the natural sweetness of the vegetables came through which worked perfectly with the polenta.
For dessert I asked what was gluten free and was told that everything was gluten free – which frankly was pretty amazing. After much indecision I opted for the Caprese choco cake, while Mr G had the brownie (chocolate wars!). The waiter was really nice and made me an off menu fresh mint tea as a caffeine free alternative to the coffee. While chocolate v chocolate can be an interesting comparison I have to say these were both very different. The caprese was lighter while the brownie was dense chocolate which I couldn’t have stomached. Good choices made all round.
All in all I had an absolutely lovely meal at La Polentaria. Mr G adored his meal too. I can’t wait to go back! My only comment would be is that they need to be slightly clearer about the gluten free status of everything.
